March Consulting Senior Staff

Dan Schlamp, P. Eng.
Senior Mechanical Engineer
Dan Schlamp is a Senior Mechanical Engineer and has been with March since 2003. He received his B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan. His experience includes eight successful years as a machinist before returning to school. He has been involved in specialized design and analysis involving the calculations of stresses, deformations, and deflections.  He was involved in the burner replacement for a rotary dryer, evaluation of an air distribution (bubbler) system at a hydro-electric power plant, HDPE pipe stress calculations and joint detailing for a buried HDPE pipeline including installation, operation, and maintenance procedures.

Gord Alkier
Senior Mechanical Layout Specialist
Gord has over 25 years of experience in the areas of general layout, piping, mechanical and structural drafting and is highly proficient in 3D CAD, including layout and complete detailing of mechanical and structural work. His extensive experience in the potash industry extends to both greenfield and brownfield projects. His brownfield project experience has given him an important perspective when working on greenfield layouts and designs and was a considerable asset during the K+S Potash Legacy project where he was responsible for overseeing the 3D modelling of structural steel and equipment placement. Gord’s layout and detailing experience makes him a valuable team member for any engineering project.

Jim Hauberg
Senior Plant Layout Specialist
Jim Hauberg has over 35 years of experience primarily in the mining industry. Over 30 years with Kilborn/SNC/March involved experience in many disciplines of engineering for the mining industry, including conceptual and final general arrangements, material handling systems design and detailing, interdisciplinary design coordination, and structural and piping detailing.

Jim has developed a particular expertise in the preparation of CADD general arrangement drawings using 3D modelling with MicroStation. His experience includes two years on a construction site performing contract coordination, inspection, and commissioning of mechanical equipment installation for a potash mill.  Jim also has extensive on-site experience through his operations background with potash and his various secondments to the base metals industry.

Tara Alzahawi, Ph.D., P.Eng.
Senior Electrical Engineer
Tara has a strong background in design of 230 kV and 138 kV substations and power system modeling and analysis using Etap and PSCAD, SKM, and Easy Power.  Power system analysis including load flow, harmonic, short circuit, motor starting, arc flash, and reliability studies. Tara also has extensive experience in relay settings, coordination and programming of substation protective devices and a deep ability for working with procedures and standards such as CEC, CSA and NFPA.

Tara’s experience also has given her a strong background in electrical distributions design, high, medium and low voltage; multidiscipline EPCM projects and an expert in planning and design studies for electrical distributions in utility, potash, uranium and gold plants. Tara is a logical team player, self-learner, decision maker and reliable.

Tara has also published journals, technical reports and articles in the field of power system reliability and protection.

Calvin Andreas, P. Eng.
Civil Engineer
Calvin has been an asset to many key projects since starting work at March in 2007. He was a key member on a gold mining pre-feasibility and feasibility project, where he worked on field investigations, civil design, the capital cost estimate, and logistics for the gold mine study. He also worked on the PotashCorp Patience Lake injection system expansion project, where he assisted the Construction Manager in coordinating with various contractors. For this project, he also performed management and coordination for earthwork, carpentry, mechanical, and electrical work.  Calvin also worked at PotashCorp Rocanville, Scissors Creek, as a Technical Coordinator for PotashCorp during civil/structural construction for the new electrical substation and office building complex. Calvin has worked on the K+S Potash Canada (KSPC) Legacy project as Lead Civil Engineer for design of the injection sites’ for site layout, earthworks, drainage systems, and site access. Calvin was also at the mine site during construction providing Quality Assurance (QA) for earthwork of large ponds, injection pads, cable trenching and access roads. In 2015, Calvin worked at PotashCorp Lanigan as Construction Manager for PotashCorp.

Most recently, Calvin has been part of prefeasibility and feasibility studies for future potash solution mining in Saskatchewan where he provided initial estimates for civil and earthwork volumes, man-power, and equipment. Calvin is also currently working on approving and engineer stamping the civil earthworks portion of a wellfield pad for an injection solution mine site.

Don Zunti, P. Eng.
