Wellfield Earthwork & Pond Design - K+S Potash Canada
The wellfield earthwork design included the site grading to deal with potential spills and 1:100 year rain events, drill rig platform earthwork and concrete design, and brine pond design. The brine ponds were constructed of native till with a synthetic liner. In order to prevent liner damage when the pond is empty, a dewatering system was designed to lower the ground water in the vicinity of the pond to prevent the liner from floating. There were two ponds: one for blanketing fluid separation and one for brine storage. The separation pond included a skimming system to recover blanketing fluid, an underflow pipeline for clean brine to enter the storage pond, and a waterfowl management system to prevent waterfowl from landing in the separation pond.
